I am sometimes uncomfortable calling myself an ‘ artist’. Yet, from childhood, I’ve always loved to paint, draw and doodle. Eventually, I did freelance editorial illustration for the Washington Post and Montreal Gazette, then went on to water colour and acrylic painting. My favorite subjects are Canadian Shield and prairie landscapes, especially winter, where snow itself presents a fascinating canvas of shadows, colours and light. Maybe it’s that transition from doodle, to a sketch which someone wants to publish, to a painting someone wants to hang on their wall that makes me an artist.
